Street party to celebrate Queen's 90th

The children had traditional English food including sandwiches, sausage rolls, carrot and cucumber sticks, followed by delicious cakes and crown shaped biscuits baked by the school chef.

The teachers served the food and ate with the children and headteacher Christopher Wilson took pride of place on the Queen’s throne in the middle of the table.

Afterwards they played on the school field and had a visit from Chris Smith, the chair of the Carlton-in-Lindrick Parish Council, who donated a commemorative coin in a glass case to each child.

The school’s business manager Catherine Garrett who organised the celebrabtions said: “They had a great time. They were buzzing. They loved having their lunch outside and they were thrilled with the coins they were given.”

The special throne chair was donated by one of the parents a couple of years ago.

Ms Garrett said: “They thought it was an ideal story telling chair so we have it in our library for teachers to use. It also comes out for Father Christmas each year,” she added.

Ramsden Primary School also had a street party to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee back in 2012.

“We organised the same thing for the Jubilee but it rained so the kids had to come indoors,” said Ms Garrett.

“I think that’s why they particularly enjoyed it last week because we had great weather and it all went to plan. It was a beautiful day.”

Ms Garret said she is planning another party for the Queen’s official birthday celebration day in June.

The Queen celebrated her birthday last Thursday surrounded by family and friends with a meal at Winsor Castle hosted by Prince Charles.
