STORM JONAS: Notts escapes weather warning... for now

The East Midlands has so far managed to escape a weather warning, despite heavy winds and rain across the region.

But a spokesman for weather forecasters MeteoGroup says that the area is “on the borderline” of a warning.

The majority of regions across the UK have been issued with a yellow warning for rain, following the arrival of the remains of Storm Jonas from the USA.

However, although there is no warning in place, heavy winds of up to 50mph are set to hit the East Midlands, according to MeteoGroup.

The spokesman said: “Strong winds are going to remain in the East Midlands with outbreaks of rain.

“It is not quite persistent enough for a warning... but the region is right on the borderline of getting a yellow warning.”

The rest of the day is also expected to bring gusty winds across the region.
