Ireneusz Samczuk’s car was stopped on Bridge Street, on February 27, following a tip off, and he told police he’d had two beers and a vodka.

A test revealed he had 57 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, when the legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

He told the court: “I felt I was OK to drive. This is the biggest mistake I have made so far.

“I ask the court for a lenient sentence as I am the sole supporter for my family in Poland.”

Samczuk, 32, of Broomhill Lane, Mansfield, admitted drink driving at Mansfield Magistrates Court on Thursday.

He was fined £290, with costs of £85 and a £30 vicitm surcharge, and banned for 16 months.
