Vicki Richards, children and youth minister, conducted the service at St John the Evangelist Church last month.

Nursery manager Jacqui Hannaby said the idea came about after one of the children attended a christening.

“They wanted to know if Carly and Granby had been christened. We got in touch with the local church and Vicki very kindly agreed to conduct a service for the bears,” she said.

“It was a lovely event, the children were really well behaved and Vicki was very accommodating to us all.”

“Carly and Granby are the nursery’s transition bears - they go everywhere with the children and teach them responsibility for looking after things and sharing.”
