South Yorks: Students flock to Meadowhall event

The event saw a record 9,000 sixth form, college and university students enjoy an exclusive range of discounts, giveaways, competitions and promotions from retailers including Urban Outfitters, Celeb Boutique, New Look, Schuh and Krispy Kreme.

The evening, which was hosted by Capital FM presenter Simon Hirst, saw students leaving the pressures of exam preparation and course work submissions behind for one night, as they enjoyed entertainment on the malls from bucking broncos to tap dancing turkeys, through to surf simulators and live music by Suddenly Us.

James Melody, aged 18 and a student at Silverdale Sixth Form, said: “I had a great night at the Student Lock In – lots of entertainment on offer and some brilliant bargains – a great night out with my mates.”

Meadowhall Events Manager, Alex Caley said: “The Spring Student Lock In has been a huge success – we have seen our biggest turnout yet with more than 9,000 students taking advantage of all the exclusive discounts from our high-street brands and food retailers. The atmosphere was absolutely fantastic too, with live music, Capital FM and lots of fun mall entertainment.

“May can be a tough month for students with the pressures of exams, projects and coursework to juggle; so we really enjoy giving them a little Meadowhall ME moment where they can let their hair down and enjoy themselves amongst friends.”
