‘Sooner we get jobs the better’ - Mann

BASSETLAW MP John Mann says he isn’t concerned over the lack of activity on the Vesuvius site, despite plans for a new supermarket and football ground being passed almost six months ago.

Ambitious proposals which are expected to create more than 1,000 jobs were given the green light by Bassetlaw Council in December.

Developers CEG stated its intention to begin work on the site this year but were unable to confirm whether this will remain the case as the Guardian went to print on Thursday morning.

But MP John Mann said he was ‘sure it will be going ahead in the near future’.

“There will have to be negotiations on the detail. I’m not bothered about what phases the sites develop as long as we get jobs in and a football ground on it.”

“The rest is important detail, but the sooner we get jobs the better.”

As well as an Asda and a new home for Worksop Town, approved plans include office space, a petrol station and improvements to nearby road networks.

A Bassetlaw Council spokesman said: “The council submitted a draft planning agreement to the developers for comment back in January. Officers will be meeting with CEG’s representatives later this week to receive their response.”

David Hodgson from CEG said: “We are continuing to work closely with the council and Worksop Town Football Club to progress and finalise the proposals for the development.”
