Services have been affected in Worksop, Carlton, Whitwell and Clay Cross since Wednesday morning.

People have been unable to get online and make phone calls due to an ‘underground electrical fire’, which damaged fire cables.

Christian Boyce, of Worksop, who works for Sky, tweeted: “To complicate matters a gas leak also occurred. This site has been made safe overnight and repair teams are on site.

“Should know more later this morning. keep an eye out on the status page.”

The connection is still down this morning and it is not yet known how long the work will take.

Some people have since voiced their frustrations on social media.

A statement on the Sky website on Wednesday just before 5pm said: “We’re working with the local authorities to gain access to the site of the fault.

“The latest news we have is that repair work is likely to start late this evening (Wednesday) once access has been granted and it could carry on overnight tonight. We’ll provide our next update this evening if we receive any news.

“Calls to emergency services are unaffected.

“We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused.”
