SINKHOLE HAVOC: Collapsed sewage pipe to blame for Carlton Road cave-in

Sink hole that has opened up on Carlton Road, Worksop.

The “cave-in” appeared outside the old Newcastle Arms last week, emerging just metres away from the first hole which collapsed in June 2017 – and took months to fix.

Delays and disruption ensued as the road was closed until experts from Via, which manages the county’s highways on behalf of Nottinghamshire County Council, intervened.

Via installed temporary traffic lights on the road, which is home to North Nottinghamshire College, before passing responsibility on to Severn Trent Water.

A Severn Trent spokesman said: “Our teams have been working to determine what’s caused a sinkhole on Carlton Road and we’re sorry to say it’s been caused by one of our sewer pipes collapsing.

“We’re now planning the best way to carry out the repair, so it can be fixed as quickly and safely as possible.

“We’re currently using three-way traffic lights to keep our teams and members of the public and road users safe.

“We’re really sorry if this is causing any inconvenience, we’ll work as quick as we can to get everything back to normal.”

Carlton Road will be closed on Monday, April 16, so repairs can take place.
