Staff and volunteers at Cancer Research UK on Newcastle Avenue are celebrating the news and thanking the public for their help.

“We are so grateful to everyone who has donated to the shop and bought items from us over the years,” said store manager Amanda Lea.

Amanda has been at the store for ten years and has seen it go from strength to strength.

“Our volunteer pool is now 25 strong and they are so dedicated,” said Amanda.

“Our youngest volunteer is 17 and our oldest is 80. If it wasn’t for them processing the stock and putting it out on the shop floor we wouldn’t have reached this amazing milestone.”

“We are really lucky because we get some lovely stock from the Worksop public. And we are always looking for more donations - especially at Christmas.”

She said the feels the store’s success is down to the way they aim to be like a normal shop.

“Customers do say that to us when they come in,” she said.

Amanda and the area manager Yo Leake hosted a buffet lunch at the Anchor pub on Eastgate for all the volunteers to thank them for all their hard work.

A new development at the store is that purchases now attract gift aid.

Amanda explained: “For every £2 that goes through the till, we get 25p back from the Government. That’s about £167 extra every week.”
