A 37-year-old man was shot on Thoresby Close at 9.50pm on Thursday, September 24.

It is believed that the man was shot in the shoulder, and his resulting injuries are not life-threatening.

The men accused have been bailed pending further inquiries.

Harworth councillor David Challinor said: “It is obviously a disturbing incident for the community.

“Harworth and Bircotes is a strong-willed community and it will always look after its own.

“We can only try to make things better in the community, but some things are beyond our control.

“All we can do is reassure residents that it is a one-off incident.

He added: “It would have been a lot worse if it had happened in daylight hours.

“At the end of the day the police within Notts have always done a fantastic job.”

Residents in the area told the Guardian they were ‘shocked’ at the incident, which took place near a large grass area where kids play football.

Harworth resident Jim Hall, 73, said: “Three or four days on the trot there have been police cars around.

“I think there is so much trouble going off with quad bikes racing around the village and everything else, I just take it for granted now.”

A Nottinghamshire Police spokesman said: “Detectives investigating the incident are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen or heard any suspicious activity in the Harworth area on Thursday evening.”
