Sue Whittam has spent her life working in the businesses along Laughton Road and helping the people of Dinnington.
She currently works in the Age UK shop and offers help and support to its volunteers and customers.
As a way of saying thank you Sue’s friend Maureen Singh presented her with our Guardian Rose.
Maureen, who also volunteers in the charity shop, said: “Sue always goes that extra mile to help people.”
“She is salt of the earth, a proper Yorkshire lass.”
“She supports the volunteers in the shop and always helps out the customers.”
“I recently had an operation and she has rallied round to help and has gone out of her way to give me some support. She is like that with everyone.”
“Another example of how kind-hearted she is, is her neighbour.”
“He is 90-years-old and she looks after him.”
“He has family who help, but Sue has taken him under her wing and make sure that he is ok.”
“When our manager Liz started last year it was Sue who showed her the ropes.”
Sue was shocked to receive the rose infront on customers on a busy afternoon in the charity shop.
She said: “It’s a huge surprise, but a lovely one.”
“I was born and brought up in Dinnington. I’m a Yorkshire lass so get on with everyone.”
“My family, friends, anyone - if they need my help then I will help them.”
Sue has worked in the Age UK shop for six years, having previously worked in the Co-op for more than 20 years and a shoe shop.
“I have never moved. I’m a local lass and I love it around here,” added Sue.
