Carlos Carvalhal’s side will take on Yorkshire neighbours Hull City in the Championship Play-off Final at Wembley a week today. £170 million will be at stake in a match regarded as the richest game in world football.

Wednesday secured their first Wembley trip in 23 years after a 3-1 aggregate win over Brighton and Hove Albion in their Semi-Final.

And Wallace, who bagged two of Wednesday’s three goals against the Seagulls, believes the club are heading in the right direction.

The Scot told The Star: “We have got a young squad. There are a lot of players who are coming into their peak so I think the next three or four years we are looking very strong.

“If we don’t manage to get up this year, we have definitely got a chance in the next few years of having a real good go.”

Wallace is chasing a hat-trick of promotions out of the second tier.

When asked where helping Wednesday go up would rank in his career, he replied: “It would be right up there. It doesn’t matter how you get promoted. It is just about getting over the line.”

Wallace has described his first year at the club as “one of my most enjoyable”.
