Sheffield Wednesday: Owls remain underdogs to go up, claims Carvalhal

Owls chief Carlos Carvalhal is adamant his side should be regarded as rank outsiders in their up-and-coming Championship Play-Off Final duel with Hull City.

Fresh from beating Brighton and Hove Albion over two legs, Wednesday will face the Tigers on Saturday, May 28, at Wembley with a place in the Premier League up for grabs.

Hull finished two places higher and nine points better off than the Owls in the regular season, but Carvalhal remains confident the team can cause an upset.

“We will go in completely as underdogs,” the Portuguese chief told The Star.

Hull City have got a good coach and side.

“They are a very good team and, since the beginning, are more ready than us to achieve promotion.

“We will go in as underdogs but that doesn’t mean we don’t have a chance.”

Carvalhal and Owls coach Joao Mario Oliveira watched Hull in action as they fell to a 2-0 defeat in the second leg of their Semi-Final tie with Derby County on Tuesday. However, Steve Bruce’s side won the first leg 3-0 to ensure they will head to Wembley for the fourth time in the last four seasons.

Bruce admitted: “We will have to be better and have got to handle the occasion better than we did the other night.”
