Sheffield Wednesday: Owls initiative a '˜resounding success'

More than 14,000 Wednesdayites took advantage of the club's innovative '˜season ticket window' scheme.

It has emerged the initiative, which was launched on New Year’s Day, has helped the Owls smash their all-time record in the first phase of season tickets going on sale.

Over 14,000 supporters have agreed a one, two or three-year deal to guarantee their seat at Hillsborough at a fixed price, regardless of what division the club are playing in.

Due to popular demand and feedback from the Supporters Steering Group, the window, which was initially set to run until February 1, was extended by a week.

Over 50 per cent of fans have invested in a three-year season ticket. For fans who have signed up to that offer, the cost equates to £17.46 while junior prices were frozen and rates for the Kids’ Zone area of the Grandstand were slashed by 50 per cent when purchased with an adult season ticket.

A Wednesday statement read: “We would like to issue a big thank you to the supporters who have made the 2016/17 Season Ticket window a resounding success.”

Meanwhile, the Owls have sold-out their 5,500 ticket allocation for their trip to Preston North End a week on Saturday. Wednesday, occupying the final Championship play-off spot, were initially allocated just over 3,000 before receiving a further allocation
