Following the two-week international break, the Owls head to Huddersfield Town on Saturday seeking a third successive league win to bolster their top-six aspirations. After back-to-back 3-0 victories over Nottingham Forest and struggling Charlton Athletic, Carlos Carvalhal’s side lie in sixth position and having established a three-point cushion over seventh-placed Cardiff City. They are effectively four points clear of the chasing pack courtesy of their superior goal difference.

Although Booth has a big soft spot for the Owls following a five-year stint at Hillsborough where he bagged 34 goals, he insists his allegiances lie firmly now with their West Yorkshire counterparts.

Booth, who is Huddersfield’s club ambassador, said: “I would love to see Wednesday make the play-offs and go on to win a place back in the Premier League.

“Obviously I’m hoping that’s not with the help of any points from this Saturday’s match at the John Smith’s Stadium, but they are a club that remain close to my heart.

“Most of the people I knew who worked at Hillsborough when I was there have gone now, but I had five great years at the club and if it’s not ourselves who can achieve anything in any given season, then it’s Wednesday I’d like to see do well because they are a big club with a big fanbase.”
