Sheffield Wednesday: Goal hero Lee pays tribute to Owls fans

Kieran Lee has described the level of support the Owls received in their 2-0 Championship Play-Off Semi-Final first leg victory over Brighton and Hove Albion as 'unbelievable'.

Carlos Carvalhal’s side turned on the style, taking control of the tie following strikes either side of half-time from Ross Wallace and Lee in front of 34,260 at Hillsborough.

Midfield playmaker Lee scooped the man of the match performance, capping a fine showing by grabbing his seventh goal of the campaign.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the final whistle, Lee said: “It (the atmosphere) sends a shiver down your spine. It is unbelievable.

“The fans have been hoping for a few years for a night like this and they were obviously happy with what they have seen.”

Wednesday will take a two-goal lead into Monday’s second leg, but Lee is refusing to take their place in the Final for granted.

When asked if the Owls have one foot in the Final, he replied: “I wouldn’t go that far but it was good to get the two goals.

“We would have taken that (the scoreline) back before the game so we are happy.”

Fernando Forestieri, who controversially had seen a goal ruled out for offside in the first hald before Wallace’s stunning opener, is urging the Owls to complete the job next week.

“The most important thing is we won,” he said. “We need to enjoy this moment and focus on Monday.”
