Carlos Carvalhal’s troops are in control of their own destiny with two matches remaining of the regular season.

The Owls sit sixth in the standings and are four points clear of nearest challengers Cardiff City, who they welcome to Hillsborough this weekend.

A draw would be enough for Carvalhal’s men to secure a top-six finish while the Bluebirds must clinch maximum points to keep their faint promotion hopes alive.

Jones, who has managed both clubs, believes all the pressure is on Wednesday.

He said: “Who will be the most nervous? I would probably say Sheffield Wednesday because they’ve got it to lose. They may have a few nerves.

“Cardiff have got to go into the game with no fear.”

The Liverpudlian, who led the Owls to automatic promotion four years ago, has been out of work since being axed by Wednesday in November 2013. Jones admits he is now “actively seeking” a return to management.

“I’ve done a lot of consultancy work of late,” he said. “I want to get back in and I just have to wait for the right opportunity.”
