Sheffield Wednesday: Forestieri plays down top-scorer battle

For the first time in nine years, Wednesday have two players who have reached double figures for goals at Championship level.

Twenty two times forwards Fernando Forestieri and Gary Hooper have found the back of the net in the Owls’ impressive march up the table.

Forestieri, deployed wide left in Saturday’s resounding victory over Brentford, is enjoying the best goals return of his career while Hooper, signed for £3m from Norwich City last month following a productive loan spell, has claimed 10 goals in his last 11 appearances.

With 15 matches remaining, Forestieri is currently two ahead of Hooper in the goal-scoring charts but the little Argentine has played down the race to finish as the club’s top-scorer.

“For me, it (finishing top-scorer) doesn’t matter,” he told The Star. “It doesn’t matter if I score or Gary scores.

“The important thing is the three points.

“I don’t like talking about just one player. We have 11 players and seven more on the bench.

“Everyone is important in the team. It is not just about Gary or me.”

Meanwhile, Wednesday have slashed their ticket prices for next month’s home clash with Charlton Athletic as a ‘thank you’ to fans. The Owls entertain the Addicks on Saturday, March 19, hoping to break the 30,000 mark. Tickets are priced at £20 adults, concessions £15, Under-17s £10 and U11s £5.
