“After talking with him and seeing the image, it was a very clear penalty. It was an unbelievable decision. It could have made a big difference of course as there were three or four minutes left in the game.

“In the last game, Fernando Forestieri was sent off but the referee made a very bad decision with the first yellow card. These kind of things are very bad to us because we are losing some points.”

Atdhe Nuhiu’s fifth goal of the season cancelled out Daniel Toszer’s opener. Nuhiu missed the chance to give the Owls the lead from the spot.

Carvalhal refused to blame the officials for his side failing to win.

“I don’t want to talk about referees as I prefer to talk about the game,” he said. “We missed some very clear chances. That was our fault.

“We created two chances in the opening two minutes. We never lost control of the game. We reacted very well to win the ball. After the penalty, the emotion of the team came a little down and QPR scored but we showed a strong reaction again.”

On Nuhiu’s penalty miss, Carvalhal said: “He scored against Brentford earlier in the season. We win and lose together. He did well for his goal and showed a lot of character after the penalty. He fought until the last minute like all the team.”

Defender Claude Dielna, meanwhile, is on the verge of joining Slovakian side Slovan Bratislava on loan until the end of the season.
