Sheffield Wednesday: Carlos Carvalhal seeks Owls consistency

It promises to be another busy summer at Hillsborough as the Owls aim to put their Championship Play-Off final disappointment behind them.

But Carvalhal is confident his side have learned from their two dips in form which he believes prevented Wednesday from pushing for a top-two finish last term.

After their opening-day triumph over Bristol City, Carvalhal’s men failed to win any of their next six league fixtures. Their sluggish start saw them, at one stage, slide down to 19th in the standings.

And a five-match winless run between February and March, featuring two red cards for star man Fernando Forestieri, also hindered their progress.

Carvalhal told The Star: “I hope that next season we will be more strong at the beginning. We missed some points at the start of last season. It’s all about consistency. We had two gaps during the season in the opening seven games and in February when we had some refereeing decisions go against us. We will try to correct the parts that we can control.

“We missed some points in the opening seven games and I believe that we will not have this problem next season.”

Head coach Carvalhal has played down the prospect of a major squad revamp, hinting the team only requires minor surgery.

“We don’t need a revolution but we will try to improve the team,” Carvalhal said. “We know all of our players very well.

“We know which positions we need one or another player. The players we try to bring in will give us more options and quality.”
