Sheffield Wednesday: Boss does his homework for cup test

Speaking ahead of tomorrow’s FA Cup fourth round clash, Carvalhal told The Star: “I know the team very well because my staff and I have done our homework.

“The first thing the coach must do is analyse the positives and negatives of their opponents. I have seen three of Shrewsbury’s games. I know it will not be easy.

“I have prepared for Shrewsbury in the same way as I prepared for Reading and Leeds. I have shown them the same respect. I have probably done a little bit more analysing because we know much more about Reading and Leeds than this opponent.”

Carvalhal has warned his players that they must not take Shrewsbury lightly - or risk being on the receiving end of a cup upset.

“We are in a higher division but Shrewsbury will play with full energy so we must show them respect from the first second,” said Carvalhal.

“We know, and they know, if we both play at 100 per cent, we have more chance than them of winning. They have more chances if we don’t play 100 per cent.

“It is normal that we have more quality than them but it is not quality that wins you games. It is attitude that is very important.

“Attitude makes a big difference in these kind of games. Sometimes the teams with more quality don’t play with a proper attitude and that’s why surprises appear.”

He added: “Our main competition is the Championship and that is the reality but that doesn’t mean we are not interested in trying to do our best in the FA Cup.”
