Carlos Carvalhal’s troops have slipped to 10th following successive Championship defeats against Derby County and Ipswich Town.

Wednesday’s return of 24 points from 16 matches is identical to a year ago and the fast start Carvalhal called for has failed to materialise.

But despite their poor run of results, the Owls remain just two points shy of the Play-Off positions.

Reach, formerly of Middlesbrough, told The Star: “Obviously, you always want to be higher in the league but that’s football.

“In the Championship, you can sometimes play three games in a week. If you win all three and the teams above you drop points, then you can shoot up the table and everything is to play for.

“If we can keep working the way we are doing, I don’t see why we can’t be up there come the end of the season.”

Wednesday were booed off after their below-par showing against Ipswich as Carvalhal’s men crashed to a third Hillsborough loss this term.

“It was just a bad day at the office,” said Reach, who has featured 11 times since completing a £5million switch on August transfer deadline day. “Individually and as a team we just weren’t at it.”

Reach, taken off before the hour mark, added: “We wanted to get the win, and then you’re always susceptible to the counter attack. It is just one of those things.

“Maybe we should have taken the draw but we always try to be positive and go for the win.

“But the lads will soon move on. We’ve got two weeks now to put some things right and get some confidence back, then we’ll go again.”
