United, who last night unveiled their latest home strip ahead of August’s Championship opener against Swansea City, emerged as play-off contenders last term only a year after winning promotion from League One.

Henderson, on loan from Manchester United, is convinced their achievements were no fluke after being impressed by the quality at Wilder’s disposal during training this week.

“You look at the manager for a start and he is so passionate in where he wants to go and take the club,” the goalkeeper said. “Being a fan himself, he wants it all.

“I am a passionate lad as well and have a hunger and desire to go to the next level, improve, and get good things on my CV. If I could get a promotion with Sheffield United on my CV, then I’d be absolutely delighted. It would make for the perfect year.”

Henderson, aged 21, rejected moves to clubs including Norwich City and Ipswich Town in favour of a switch to Bramall Lane. He helped Shrewsbury Town reach last season’s League One play-offs during am 11 month spell at Montgomery Waters Meadow.

“The group of players is excellent and the quality in training is really high,” Henderson continued. “Hopefully we can build on that, do really well this season and do under the radar a little bit.

“And who knows, you saw it at Shrewsbury last season where we defied the odds. The opportunity is there for us to do really well this season.”
