The Canada international is set to become a free agent during the close season and, speaking ahead of today’s visit to Rochdale, told The Star his parent club have yet to indicate whether he will be offered new terms.

Nigel Adkins, the United manager, is thought to be keen on retaining Edgar’s services after being impressed with his contribution since arriving at Bramall Lane in August and the Canada international said: “I came here for a reason. It’s a huge football club and I wanted to play games.

“I’m enjoying myself. We’ll just see what happens.

“The only thing I’m focused on, the only thing I should be focused on in fact, is trying to win the next game.

“All the other stuff goes on behind the scenes. All I can do is train hard, work hard, stay fit and try to help us achieve our aims.”

Asked whether City could elect to extend his stay at St Andrews, Edgar admitted: “I haven’t heard anything, no.”

Edgar, aged 28, was a member of the Burnley squad which gained promotion to the Premier League in 2014 but insisted helping United reach the Championship would top that achievement.

“I’ve been involved in a promotion and it helps everyone’s career,” he said. “The gaffer is always banging on about that but, to be honest, I think going up with this club would be extra special.

“Why? Because you look at the fan base and the potential here. Now we’ve got to go out there and do it.”
