Sheffield United: Can Che do '˜a Vardy' and go all the way?

Billy Sharp believes Sheffield United team mate Che Adams has what it takes to emulate Jamie Vardy and reach the highest level of the domestic game after starting his career in non-league.

But Sharp, United’s leading goalscorer this term, warned the teenager’s potential will remain unfulfilled if he ignores the advice of manager Nigel Adkins and his more experienced colleagues at Bramall Lane.

“Che is a good young player and he can play at a higher level too if he takes on board and listens to what the coaches are telling him,” Sharp said. “He’s got all the attributes you need to do it and the ability as well. So, providing Che keeps showing the right attitude and taking on board what people are telling him, I don’t see any reason why he can’t get there.”

Adams is set to make his 50th appearance since leaving Ilkeston 17 months ago when United visit Chesterfield tomorrow. The 19-year-old scored twice when the two sides met at Bramall Lane in August.

Vardy represented the likes of Stocksbridge Park Steels and Fleetwood, then of the Vanarama National League, before joining champions-elect Leicester City.

“It’s nice to play alongside Che because he makes things happen out of the blue,” Sharp said. “He tries to make goals for me. He complements me and I complement him.”
