Sheffield United: Blades suffer injury blow

Martyn Woolford's ankle injury could be worse than first feared, Sheffield United manager Nigel Adkins has revealed.

Woolford was substituted during the first-half of last weekend’s match at Rochdale following what was later described as “a very naughty tackle” and will miss Saturday’s visit to Fleetwood Town as a result.

Adkins said: “Martyn is wearing a protective boot at the moment. He’s had some scans and until those are analysed properly, we can’t really say anymore.

“Hopefully he will be back soon but it might be a little bit longer. He certainly won’t be involved in our next game.”

Adkins, speaking to the media at the Steelphalt Academy earlier today, added: “It was a very naughty tackle that Martyn got caught by, I didn’t really realise how bad it was until we watched it back on the video.”

United, who are 12th in the League One table after being beaten by leaders Burton Albion in midweek, are set to welcome back midfielder Dean Hammond from suspension at Highbury.

“Yes, Dean is available again,” Adkins said. “It’s always good to have someone of his experience and calibre at your disposal.”
