Sheffield United: Blades can not afford a derby hangover against MK Dons

Seven days after the thrilling 3-3 draw at Valley Parade, a result which stretched United’s unbeaten run in League One competition to 10 games, Wilder’s team returns to action against MK Dons this afternoon.

And, having warned it would be a mistake to dismiss the visitors’ chance of causing an upset following a slow start to the season, Wilder said: “A lot of good things came out of last weekend but we have to move on pretty quickly. And we will do, there’s good experience within the group. We’re looking forward to the game and what it might bring. That’s a good sign.”

“I thought Bash (Chris Basham) hit the nail on the head when he said we’re looking to the next challenge,” Wilder added. “That’s the approach we need to have”

Basham is again expected to be preferred to Jack O’Connell at centre-half after deputising for the 22-year-old against City and Shrewsbury Town. O’Connell was taken ill before the trip to Greenhous Meadow and Wilder said: “We need dilemmas like Chris and Jack. We made a decision, Jack took it like he has to.

“It’ll open up for Jack pretty soon and then other players will have that same issue, of having to dismantle him.”
