Sheffield United: Blades boss is delighted with his attacking options

Billy Sharp has shouldered the responsibility of leading Wilder’s attack in recent weeks, scoring five goals in just three outings as United stretched their unbeaten League One run to 11 games.

But with Lavert, Done and Clarke all featuring on the team sheet during Wednesday’s Checkatrade Trophy tie against Grimsby Town, Wilder said: “It makes us stronger and it is a long old season. The first three months has been a bit of a blast and you start picking up injuries and you start looking at players. I won’t change for change’s sake, but everyone wants to play and I understand that. They have to get into the team by working hard and they are all doing that and we have options to change it around.”

Sharp, who travels to the Proact Stadium searching for his 11th goal of the campaign, is expected to start after recovering from illness.

“Lavery can run in and there is what Billy brings to us and Leon’s physical aspect,” Wilder said. “They all are good players along with Matt Done. The one good thing about the recruitment that we made sure that we boxed off was having different attributes at the top of the pitch. I think the players have done outstanding well to get to this position without Done, Lavery and Clarke and that is testament to their attitude in terms of getting on with it.”

United climbed to fourth in the table when they beat MK Dons last month. Shrewsbury Town travel to Bramall Lane next weekend before Shrewsbury Town’s visit on November 22nd.

“Looking at the bench now, I am not handing Haribo’s out,” Wilder said. “We have got proper men on the bench, which is no disrespect to the young ones as they are part of the club and will be there. But I wanted the squad to be as strong as possible.”
