Wilder told The Star he will “look into the players’ eyes” ahead of United’s final home match of the Championship season, having questioned whether some members of his squad have become “too comfortable” in recent months.

Admitting shock therapy could be required to revive his club’s faltering top six challenge, he said: “That obligation we have to our supporters is to finish on a high. So there might be a few changes and surprises. We’ll see what happens. But I’m not ruling it out. No way.”

With only two games of the regular campaign remaining, 11th placed United will enter the meeting with Alex Neil’s side five points behind Derby County in sixth after losing at St Andrews.

Although Wilder insisted they deserve a warm reception from the Bramall Lane crowd after exceeding all expectations following last term’s League One title triumph, he added: “We’ve got to keep driving it forward, keep trying to raise the bar and improving everything that we do.

“If that means shaking things-up a bit, if that’s what we think is required, then so be it. That is what will happen.”
