Sheffield Steelers part company with forward Chris Lawrence

Chris Lawrence is no longer a Sheffield Steeler - as we predicted last night.

Steelers confirmed that they released the import forward this afternoon - allowing other Elite League clubs to consider what Sheffield would not...giving him a contract until the rest of the campaign.

Last week, Steelers' spokesman Dave Simms was effusive in his praise of the player.

But that was clearly not enough to save him. And it can be assumed that coach Paul Thompson believes he can prosper by going without a spare import or finding somebody better.

Lawrence joined the club as injury cover for Colton Fretter having been released himself from the Coventry Blaze after a difficult phase there.

In 17 games Lawrence scored 7 goals and 14 points for the Steelers including the game winning goal against his former club, Nottingham.

Thompson said “Now the club is back to full strength it is unfortunately time to move on.

“We would like to thank Chris for all of his efforts here. He has been a first class team mate and we have enjoyed his time as a Steeler. We wish him nothing but good luck going forward”
