‘She is always so very caring’

Nurse Manager Christine Handley was shocked and lost for words when she was presented with our rose by one of her patients Debra Coates in full view of the waiting room at Kiveton Park Primary Care Centre .

Christine said: “I so surprised, I don’t quite believe it.”

“It’s has been a really tough day for us so this is a real boost, and a welcome boost, not just for me but for the rest of the team.”

“It comes as a reminder that we have such a special job which we do.”

Debra, 41, has been attending appointments to see Christine for three years since being diagnosed with arthritis.

She sees Christine at least once every four months and really values the support she gives her.

“She is always so caring when I phone up and come for my bloods,” said Debra, of Stoney Bank Dive, Kiveton.

“She is always concerned and doesn’t try and fob you off.”

“She always takes time to speak to you and make sure that you are ok and will talk through anything with you.”

“She will phone me and let me know if there is a problem with my bloods.”

“It’s nice to know that I have that support.”

Christine was visibly touched to receive the rose from Debra, who came to present the rose with her nine-year-old son James.

Christine looks after between 70 and 80 patients at the care centre on Chapel Way and offers the same support to many of them.

“I generally do it for everyone,” said Christine.

“I particularly do it for Debra and the group of patients I look after in the shared care Rheumatology clinic.”

“I look after around 70 or 80 patients and I’m in touch with them every three months by phone or in person.”

“They know that if they have any concerns then all the have to do is ring me.”
