Sentencing date set after Alton Towers Smiler crash

The owner of Alton Towers is to be sentenced later this year over the Smiler rollercoaster crash which seriously injured five people.

Merlin Attractions Operation Ltd has already indicated a guilty plea to a charge of breaching health and safety regulations after the collision, which occurred on June 2, 2015.

A two-day sentencing hearing will start on September 26 at Stafford Crown Court.

The company has previously been warned to expect a very large fine.
