Nottinghamshire Police has helped break a Guinness World Record for the largest number of people being trained in first aid in one lesson.
The lesson was held at the Chesterfield ProAct Stadium to celebrate its 150th anniversary and took 30 minutes to complete.
A total of 1,795 students and more than 150 volunteers took part, including nine Nottinghamshire Police employees.
Students travelled from Chesterfield, Dronfield, Whitwell, Derby, Tibshelf, Alfreton and Nottingham for the event and received a medal and certificate recognising them as ‘record breakers.’
The team from Nottinghamshire Police helped train the students in key lifesaving skills, including CPR.
Stella Herbert, learning and development officer at Nottinghamshire Police, said: “It was a great experience to help break a Guinness World Record, but most importantly to teach schoolchildren some basic lifesaving skills.
“We always hope they never have to use them but it’s such an important lesson and we were able to deliver it in an exciting and engaging way.”
The previous record was set at 1,700 people by Emirates Transport at Abu Dhabi National Theatre in 2013.
The event, which was arranged by the Community Save A Life Scheme and Bolsover District Council, was supported by a number of organisations including Nottinghamshire Police, British Heart Foundation, Cardiac Risk in the Young, Chesterfield Council, Chesterfield FC, Inner Wheel and Rotary International.
