Scaling new heights

Bryan Merrett took to the slopes of Mont Blanc in the French Alps to raise money for cancer charity Aurora.

The climb was scheduled to start on 17th June and conclude on 23rd June. Bryan’s team managed to get within a few meters of the summit but were advised by their guide that it was too dangerous to go any further and were forced to turn back.

And the guide was proved right as on the descent he fell breaking his leg and had to be airlifted off the mountain.

Aurora’s Peter Bradley said: “What has happened to some less fortunate climbers just 22 days later on the same section of the mountain doesn’t bear thinking about. A massive avalanche has unfortunately claimed what initially was thought to be six lives but sadly this has now risen to nine.”

“This devastating news has shocked us all at Aurora but we are so pleased that Bryan is safe and sound. It highlights just what some people will strive to achieve in life and also at the same time try to support a good cause.”

“Bryan’s support for Aurora began in Doncaster last year when he gave us rent free one of his shops to start our first charity shop.”

And he is currently converting the basement area of the shop so Aurora can launch its town centre therapy centre where cancer patients and the public can enjoy beauty treatments.
