Santa flies in for a visit at Magna science centre

Santa swapped his sleigh for a 25mph zip wire when he made an unusual entrance at Magna Science Adventure Centre in Rotherham.

The man in the red suit whizzed in via a 75-feet-high and 250-feet- long zip wire, to be greeted by local schoolchildren.

Visitor services manager Richard Smith said they are proud to offer added magic in the shape of Santa’s glittering grotto.

“Since Santa’s arrival is so special, we wanted him to make a memorable entrance and a zip wire seemed just the thing,” he said.

“Once he was on firm ground, he started setting up in his grotto ready to welcome our young visitors each weekend in the run-up to Christmas.”

Santa’s grotto will be open from 11am-3pm on the following Saturdays and Sundays – December 1st, 2nd, 8th, 9th, 15th, 16th, 22nd and 23rd.

Magna will also be hosting a range of Christmas craft workshops during these weekends. The first – Christmas decoration-making - will take place on 1st December at 11am and 1pm.

A grotto visit costs £4.95 per child and includes a science-themed gift.

This is in addition to normal entry charges to the attraction.
