An investigation is being carried out this morning after almost 50 homes were evacuated in Worksop last night following a huge blaze involving cylinders which “exploded” and caused “severe damage” to four garages and a car.

Two crews from Worksop and one from Edwinstowe, Retford, Mansfield, Ashfield and two station managers attended the scene on Sandy Lane just after 11pm on Wednesday.

Other residents in the area were warned to avoid the Sandy Lane area and close their windows and doors.

The blaze involved two butane cylinders, one of which exploded and one propane cylinder.

Damage was also caused to a car inside one of the garages.

A total of 46 properties were evacuated.

Fire chiefs used six breathing apparatus, two monitors, one jet and two hose reels to extinguish the blaze.

The stop message was received at 1.58am.
