The doors were officially opened by the charity’s Major Ray Mackereth.

Major Mackereth performed the ceremonial ribbon-cutting, while managing director Trevor Caffull gave words of thanks to everyone who attended.

He also praised shop manager Lisa Hall, volunteers Dot Burrell and Laura Fieldsend and the team of Salvation Army staff whose efforts made sure the shop was full of bargains on opening day.

Nicola Jackson, area manager for the charity, commented: “I’d like to say thank you to the Retford community for the fantastic reception we received.

“The team did a wonderful job in getting the shop ready and it certainly paid off – the shop has been very busy.”

Handbags proved particularly popular with Retford charity shoppers.

One pre-loved designer bag sold for an impressive £60.

Nicola added: “The shop has a large range of shoes and bags in stock at the moment – most of which you would think are brand new!

If you’re having a clear-out, we are always very grateful for good quality donations.”

The Salvation Army shop is currently looking for volunteers.

Nicola continued: “We’re on the look-out for volunteers in Retford and I’d like to encourage anybody who’s interested to pop in and have a chat about what’s involved.

“We rely on the generosity of our volunteers – if you think you can spare any time at all, from a few hours to a few days a week, you will be helping to make a huge difference.”

The new Retford shop will play a vital role in raising money for The Salvation Army to help vulnerable people in communities across the UK.

Profits from the sale of donated clothing contributes to the valuable work of The Salvation Army, which includes homelessness and addiction services, care for older people, help at emergency incidents, support for adult victims of human trafficking in England and Wales, a Family Tracing Service and much more.

Over the last five years alone the Salvation Army Trading Company has donated more than £35 million to the charity.
