Row led to drink drive

An argument ended in a Whitwell man taking the wheel and being caught over the limit.

Police stopped Adam Barlow’s Kia Pride in Bakestone Moor for a routine check at 2am on 15th October, Chesterfield magistrates heard.

Barlow, 21, of Middlegate Field Drive smelled of alcohol and failed a roadside breath test.

He was arrested and taken to a police station where a breath-test machine was out of order. He went on to give a reading of 139mgs of alcohol in 100mls of blood.

John Wilford, defending, said he had been to a pub and had an argument with his partner. “He didn’t think he would be over the limit,” he added.

Barlow admitted drink-driving. He was banned from driving for 17 months and fined £115, with £85 costs.
