Andrew Cocker, 35, of Longstone Way, admitted using violence to gain entry to the house on Carsic Road in Sutton and possessing an offensive weapon in public on January 23.

Sanjay Jerath, prosecuting, told the court Cocker had turned up at the shared house and banged on the door, demanding to see someone called Carl.

A woman who was alone in the house told him Carl wasn’t there, but Cocker continued to kick and hammer at the door, telling the woman: “I will carry on kicking your f***ing door until you let me in.”

Cocker eventually managed to force the door open and wedged it open with the bat, but police arrived and arrested him.

Sarah Neale, mitigating, said: “Mr Cocker had gone around to the address to retrieve some property that belongs to his friend’s son.”

The court heard that property had gone missing from a bedsit in the house and that Cocker had been given a lift there by a friend. He found the rounders bat in his friend’s car.

“He accepts he lost his temper,” said Miss Neale. “He was trying to generate a conversation to work out what was going on.”

Magistrates adjourned the case until March 2 for probation reports and Cocker was bailed on condition he does not enter Sutton or contact the inhabitants of the Carsic Road address.
