Jill Woodward, founder of North Derbyshire Animal Support (NDAS), heard about Shona through another dog charity called FOND in Scotland.
FOND are associated with an organisation that rescues Romanian Street dogs and brings them to England.
Shona was found lame, emaciated and toothless with a tongue that hangs out. A Romanian doctor took her in until the organisation came to safely and legally transport her.
She has spent the last three months undergoing x-rays and putting weight back on, but Jill says that none of this has stopped her passion for playing.
“She just has such a character and no matter what she goes through, she still wants to play ball. It’s unbeleivable,” she said.
The dog will be with Jill in the Bolsover shop most days, where she will be “only happy to meet new friends”.
