Roads are flooded as heavy rain hits region

Motorists were met with dangerous conditions this week as flash flooding hit the region.

On Tuesday afternoon heavy rain caused roads in Kiveton and Wales to flood. Wales Road in Kiveton flooded in a short space of time after a heavy burst of rain, with the water level rising close to businesses.

Other roads across the region were also flooded causing problems for drivers and forcing them to find alternative routes.

South Yorkshire Fire Service warned drivers not to drive through flooded roads, after a crews in Doncaster rescue a bread van from four feet of water on Tuesday morning.

Group Manager Tony Carlin from the fire service said: “When a road is flooded like this it is impossible to tell exactly how deep the water is, so you should never try your luck at getting through.

“Even if there are no signs saying the road is closed or flooded, you should never enter flood water.”

This week the Environment Agency warned that there is still a significant risk of surface water flooding as more heavy rain is forecast.

They urged communities to remain alert and prepared.
