Riverside relief as cash drops in

ORGANISERS of this year’s Riverside Festival are breathing a sigh of relief after £5,000 funding was finally approved by Gainsborough Town Council.

With the 16th June event drawing ever closer, it had become a worry whether the money would be made available.

But at the full council meeting on Tuesday 1st May, councillors agreed the money could be released to help the festival committee finalise their plans.

“We are very grateful to the town council for keeping the festival going,” said Riverside Festival committee chairman Tim Davies.

“This is our 11th festival and while there was a bit of uncertainty over the council’s contribution, we were determined the show would go on no matter what.”

“It has been the hardest year to gather funding across the board which has been frustrating for the committee because we have had to carry on planning without all the money being in place.”

Mr Davies continued: “This is the peoples’ festival and they come out to support it in their thousands. We won’t let them down this year - expect the usual festival atmosphere with something for everyone.”
