Riverside Fest goes for gold

GAINSBOROUGH’S biggest outdoor event is fast approaching as organisers of this year’s 11th Riverside Festival gear up for the big day on Saturday 16th June.

This year, to tie in with the London Olympics, the festival theme is Going For Gold.

And visitors will be encouraged to participate in sport-related activities and events on the day... why not dress in your favourite sports gear and really get in the mood?

The last time the festival celebrated an Olympic year was back in 2008 for the Beijing Olympics.

As usual the 2012 event is shaping up to be a fantastic day out for all the family with a parade, arts and crafts, stalls representing local businesses and community groups, live performances at Sandars Yard and a stunning firework display.

Entries are still being accepted to fill the important roles of Festival Torchbearers.

Primary school children aged eight to 11 are invited to apply to carry the Riverside Festival torch during the parade, and get VIP treatment for the day.
