Rhodesia: Haggonfields pupils enjoy a Premier day out

The pupils were the specially invited guests of Liverpool’s sponsors, Standard Chartered Bank.

They enjoyed first class hospitality in the club’s Number 7 lounge where they were given all the food and drink they could manage to eat.

The pupils all received individual gift bags from Standard Chartered and got front row seats to watch the match.

The game finished in a 1-1 draw with new striker Danny Ings scoring his first goal for the Liverpool to give them the lead in the second half.

But Russell Martin, who had become a father for the third time just hours before the game, equalised for the Canaries.

“I would like to thank Standard Chartered for their hospitality in offering me the chance to once again bring children from Bassetlaw to Liverpool FC,” said Mr Mann.

“I am passionately committed to doing all I can to ensure that kids from Bassetlaw get to experience world class sporting events and am delighted that the Haggonfield students enjoyed the day.

“Special thanks also need to go to County Councillor Sybil Fielding who kindly paid for the coach out of her community fund.”

“For the majority of our pupils, this was a once in a lifetime opportunity,” added Brian Huxley, Haggonfields head teacher

“The children returned to school buzzing in the wake of their experiences.

“They gained memories that they will treasure.

“As a staff, we felt particularly proud to receive several compliments from the public about the excellent behaviour of our pupils.

“On behalf of the whole school community, I would like to thank John Mann and Sybil Fielding for providing this opportunity.”
