Food hygiene inspectors have rated a number of food outlets and restaurants in the Worksop area as ‘very good’.
The Guardian understands The Railway Cafe and Saffron Lounge on Carlton Road, Cafe Neo on Bridge Place and Acorn Sandwich Bar on Potter Street all achieved a rating of five out of five last year.
Top marks were also recently awarded to Liquorice Gardens on Newcastle Street, The Charnwood Hotel on Sheffield Road, Blyth, Annie’s Coffee House on Worksop Road, Woodsetts, Meadowfresh of Chesterfield, based at Arrow Farm Shop, Worksop Road and Thai Cassia Bar and Restaurant on Park Street, Worksop.
Others included Laser Labyrinth Ltd on Kilton Road, Jamie’s on Elmton Road, Creswell and Royal Coffee House in The Priory Centre, amongst many others.
The Food Standards Agency ratings are determined by food safety officers at Bassetlaw Council.
Lisa Foster, manager of The Railway Cafe, said: “It is the second time that we have received it. We are happy that we have managed to keep it up.”
“We keep everything to a very high standard. It is always a pleasure when we receive it.”
“We always get comments on the cleanliness of the cafe and the toilets.”
The inspections looked at three elements - how hygienically food is handled, the condition of the structure of the buildings and how the business manages what it does to make sure food is safe.
The hygiene standards found are then rated on a scale. At the bottom of the scale is ‘zero’ – which means urgent improvement is required. At the top of the scale is ‘five’ – which means standards are very good.

“Our customers know that we do everything to assure they get the best experience when they come to Cafe Neo.”
Dawn Evans, manager at Annie’s Coffee House, said: “We have had a five ever since we opened in February 2013.”
“To be honest I would be disappointed if we did not get a five, it is very important to me.”
“Customers always comment on how clean it is. Everything is cleaned daily, it is just common sense.”
Owner of Acorn Sandwich Bar, Les Wheatcroft, said: “We are all proud of it. It is a team effort.”
“For me it is just common sense, it is what you would do in your own house.”
