REVEALED: Latest food hygiene inspections for Worksop businesses

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) ratings are determined by food safety officers at Bassetlaw Council.

The inspections look at three areas - how hygienically food is handled, the condition of the structure of the buildings and how the business records what it does to make sure food is safe.

The hygiene standards found are then given a rating. At the bottom of the scale is ‘zero’ – which means urgent improvement is required. At the top of the scale is ‘five’ – which means standards are ‘very good’.

Worksop pizza outlet Speedy Peppers, on Victoria Square, which was ranked as a ‘zero’ - the lowest possible score - meaning ‘urgent’ improvements are required, was unavailable for comment.

The Station Hotel, on Carlton Road, was also ranked as a ‘zero’ - but Bassetlaw Council said this was a paperwork issue and was not in relation to any poor hygiene standards.

‘Major improvements’ are needed at the three-star Charnwood Hotel, on Sheffield Road, Blyth, after a score of one out of five earlier this year in May.

A spokesman said: “We can confirm that the hotel was given a one star rating. However we are now an independent Garden Boutique Hotel, the Charnwood by Miracle Adams Uk ltd. and hope to move up-to a five-star rating soon.”

Takeaway Pizza Time, on Station Road, Whitwell which was inspected by Bolsover District Council and scored one out of five, was unavailable to comment.

Amongst the ‘very good’ scores in the town were the Arrow Farm Shop, Worksop Priory C of E Primary School and Worksop Cricket and Sports Club.

Lorraine Clarke, restaurant manager at the Arrow Farm Shop, said: “We are really happy with our score and we aim to keep it at that for a long time.”

And amongst the ‘good’ scores in the area were Autumn Grange Care Home, Ashleys, Jenny’s Cafe, Tasty Plaice and Westwood Residential Home.

Coun Julie Leigh, cabinet member for neighbourhoods at Bassetlaw District Council, said: “It’s easy for people in Bassetlaw to check hygiene ratings online and choose a restaurant that takes food hygiene seriously.

“A good food hygiene rating is something to be proud of. It matters to customers so we are encouraging all businesses in Bassetlaw to display their rating and be proud of running a business that aspires to have the highest standards.”
