Retford: Springhead Brewery raises a glass after claiming top award

Glasses are being raised at a craft micro-brewery following a top industry accolade.

Springhead Brewery, near Retford, north Notts, was named as the winner of the Business Development Award, alongside Hawkshead Brewery, run by the Society of Independent Brewers (SIBA).

The company was recognised for its growth and success and implementation of business plans and diversification into new areas.

Springhead managing director, Helen Teasdale, said: “We pride ourselves not only on the quality of our beers, though of course this is our passion and fundamental to our business, but also on thriving in a tough economic market by striving to be innovative and evolving with our market and drinkers.”

“Our aim is to produce the very best that hops and barley can create and champion professionalism of our craft, so it is wonderful to receive this recognition from our peers and industry experts.”

This year will see Springhead celebrate its silver anniversary, and to mark 25 years of producing quality craft beers, they are hosting a series of events.

Miss Teasdale added: “We have a number of fantastic events planned throughout the year.”

“This includes the launch of our new fruit beer, Argenta, made with stacks of English blackberries and champagne yeast, and the opening of our next Springhead pub, The Ginger Pig, in Retford next month.”

“We hope you will join us in raising a glass to celebrate at our Spring Festival at the brewery in Laneham, for which we previously won the SIBA Community Award. The event is to be held over the Easter weekend, and will be a fantastic fun weekend with a great selection of real ales, locally-sourced food, live music and family fun throughout.”

Presenting the awards, SIBA managing director Mike Benner said: “The SIBA Business Awards have been running for 10 years. In that time, the independent brewing sector has expanded hugely and competition increased for a place on the bar or facing in the supermarket.

“Our business awards recognise a raft of business skills and it is a credit to the talent of our members that so many of them submitted strong, compelling entries this year. What SIBA brewers may lack in size, they more than make up for with entrepreneurial flair, professionalism and dedication to their business.”
