A martial arts instructor from Retford has been honoured by being invited to take part in an unforgettable experience attending a special ceremony to open a new training and educational centre in Korea.
Master Andrew Blinston is the chief instructor of Lynx Black Belt Leadership Academy, a full-time professional martial arts school in Retford.
He is also the general secretary of the Mudo Academy of Great Britain and also a verifier for a national governing body.
And he was one of seven representatives who attended the grand opening of the World Mudo Academy Educational and Meditation Centre on Jeju Island in Korea.
Andrew was asked by his Grand Master, Master Kim Yong Ho 9th Dan, President of the World Chungdokwan and the World Mudo Academy to be a part of this historical event, after he visited Bassetlaw and hosted a prestige seminar at the Lynx Academy last year.
The centre was officially opened in an auspicious ceremony and to mark the occasion there was a formal ribbon cutting, with British , Irish, French and Korean hierarchy.
Andrew said this experience alone was incredibly humble, and it was then followed the official speeches by Korean dignitaries and representatives from Hong Kong and Taiwan.
The day marked an important point in the development of the World Mudo Academy as the resources and opportunities the centre will provide, will only enhance the true spirit of martial arts ‘the Mudo way’.
“The centre is home to a temple, lecture theatre, museum, library and dojang, as well as accommodation, dining and beautiful gardens,” said Andrew.
“More than 300 Buddhist monks were flown over for the grand opening and the celebrations lasted for days.
“Whilst we were in Korea, the representatives were given private tours of the island, mediated with monks and spent time with the local villagers.
“Mudo is practised in 38 countries worldwide, as a system of good health, harmony and true spirit of martial arts.
“Training in the dojang in the centre was amazing, this is where we delegates delivered paljungdo training to the French representatives.
“This whole experience was an absolute honour and now I am even more determined to give this opportunity to the students of the Lynx Academy.”
