So far the pair have raised more than £2,000 for The Children’s Hospital Charity, ahead of the event at The Clumber Inn, on Wharncliffe Road, Retford, which starts at 2pm on Sunday.

Kirsty, 25, of Century Road said: “We’ve done some fundraising in the past but usually for mass fundraising events like Comic Relief and Red Nose Day.”

“Because we’re both mums of young children, we really wanted to be able to help kids who are closer to home.”

“We’ve heard a lot of brilliant things about The Children’s Hospital and although we’ve been lucky enough not to have to use it for our own children, we know a lot of families from our town and across the region do.”

Yorkshire Bank banking advisor Lindsey, 24, thought up the idea of shaving her head, along with hairdresser Kirsty after hearing about the work of the hospital’s ward M3, which treats young children with cancer.

Kirsty added: “I’ve told a couple of my customers about what Lindsey and I are planning to do and they think we’re mad, but I tell them that a lot of the children that are treated on this ward don’t get the option whether they want to lose their hair or not.”

“People keep telling us that we’re being really brave but it’s the young patients who we are trying to help that are truly being brave - not us!”

The sisters are hoping to bring in the crowds for the local fundraiser which will entertain all the family with bouncy castles, face painting, fairground rides, a raffle and live music and performers throughout the afternoon. Kirsty and Lindsey’s head shave will take place at 7pm.
