Retford: Scouts complete 46-mile Cuckoo Way challenge along Chesterfield Canal

Members of 7th Retford (St Swithun’s) Scouts have completed a three-day challenge to walk the 46-mile length of the Chesterfield Canal – the Cuckoo Way.

Adults Kenny Newstead, Andrew Scott and Justine Bower, together with Hazel Newstead providing back-up from the car, and youngsters Molly Bower, 10, Bertie Bower, seven, Ellen Hancock, 11, Freya Williams, 11, Alyce Scott, 12, Matthew Ward, 14, and Callum Matthews, 15, all took part.

Kenny, Matthew and Alyce completed the full 46 miles with Matthew, who was sponsored to complete the walk, raising more than £200 for Macmillan Cancer for his efforts.

Callum did 27 miles, Ellen and Freya each did 19 miles and Molly, Andy and Justine all walked 15 miles.

Youngster Bertie covered a very impressive 25 miles and was allowed a couple of short rides in the car on one day.
